How to Find the Perfect Engagement Ring Size (Without Asking)

Written by Sherry Shi, Co-Founder @ ROEN
Choosing the perfect engagement ring is one thing — guessing their ring size is another. If you're aiming to keep the surprise under wraps, here are some discreet yet effective ways to get it right:
1. Enlist a Friend
Ask one of their close friends to suggest a casual stop at a jewelry store. While browsing for fun, they can suggest getting sized — and quietly relay the details back to you.
2. Borrow a Ring They Own
If they wear rings on their ring finger, quietly borrow one and have it sized by a jeweler. Just be sure to return it quickly.
3. Trace It
For a subtler approach, trace the inner and outer edges of one of their rings on paper. A jeweler can often determine the size from your outline.
4. Measure While They Sleep
If you're feeling bold, gently measure their finger with a piece of string or paper while they’re asleep. Mark where it meets, and you’ll have a solid estimate.
5. Gift a Fashion Ring
A stylish statement piece can be a thoughtful gift — and a clever way to gauge their size.
6. Ask a Family Member
Parents or siblings may have the answer — just be prepared for some excitement.
7. When in Doubt, Size Up
If you’re unsure, sizing up is often the safer choice. Resizing down is easier than sizing up.
